MAIDEN CLAIMING RACES

NEGATIVE RULES:
Never bet a horse that has lost more than one maiden-claiming race.
Toss out all first-time starters in maiden-claiming races.

CATCHALL GUIDELINE:
Wagers in maiden-claiming races shall be restricted to horses exiting an acceptable race against straight maidens, as indicated by early speed, an even effort, a competitive move at any point of call, tracking a reasonably fast early pace to the prestretch call, a faster adjusted final time, or a close finish.

In analyzing maiden-claiming events, the class dropdown whether from straight maiden conditions or from a higher subclass of maiden-claiming races, always takes top priority. If no dropdowns impress, prefer first-starters to previous maiden-claiming losers at today's price level. One of the nastiest sucker bets in racing is the recent close finisher in a maiden-claiming race at today's selling level. The horses are slow, inveterate losers at the level, and wonderful candidates for the dust bin again today.

Where should the maiden-claiming graduate be expected to win next?

Cut the selling price of the maiden-claiming race in half, and expect the winner to repeat there, or thereabouts.
