ALLOWANCES
For nonwinners four times other than maiden or claiming, all ages.
FORM:
Has reached peak
performance levels, through recent racing and workouts.
DISTANCE:
Has won at exact
or related distance.
HANDICAPPERS
PREFER:
1. A stakes winner,
preferably of an open stakes.
2. An increasingly powerful winner of three allowances
races that has finished in-the-money or close to the
winner in an open stakes.
3. Horses that have won three nonwinners allowance races
impressively in no more than six tries and are
competing under today's conditions for the first or
second time.
REGULAR
ELIMINATIONS:
1. Horses four
or older that have never beaten half the
field in an open stakes.
2. Horses that failed to finish in-the-money when entered
in a conditioned stakes.
3. Horses that have not yet won three allowance races.
4. Horses that have previously been entered to be claimed.
5. Nonstakes-winning three-year-olds trying the distance
or footing for the first time.
EXTRA
ADDED ATTRACTIONS:
1. Has won an
open stakes race.
2. Multiple allowance winners aged four that are dropping
from classified allowance conditions where they have
won or finished close while competing for a purse
higher than today's.
SPECIAL
CONDITIONS:
On turf, prefer:
1. Horses that have won more impressively on turf than on dirt.
2. Stakes winners or contenders on dirt, well bred for turf.
