STARTER
RACES
for four-year-olds and up, all starting prices.
FORM:
Has raced within
thirty days, has recorded two workouts since.
DISTANCE:
Has won at exact
or related distance.
(During the final four months of the year the basic requirements and
preferences below apply also to races for three-year-olds and up.)
HANDICAPPERS
PREFER:
1. The horse that
previously has won or finished close at the highest selling price
in open claiming races.
2. Any horse that gained eligibility last time out by dropping in
class to today's starting price, provided its recent races against
better claiming horses were even efforts or better and no horse of
superior class has dominated the series.
3. Any horse that has won in the starter series this season.
REGULAR
ELIMINATIONS:
1. Horses that
have not won at a claiming price higher than today's starting price.
2. Repeat losers in the starter series.
3. Horses dismounted by leading riders.
EXTRA
ADDED ATTRACTIONS:
1. High consistency
in this season's starter series.
2. Versatile runner, in relation to running style, footing preference,
and pace preference.
3. From a leading claiming stable.
4. Able to carry high weight repeatedly.
SPECIAL
CONDITIONS:
Under handicap
conditions, prefer:
1. High-weighted horses that have already won in the series.
2. Horses of higher weight that gained eligibility last race.
ON
TURF, PREFER:
1. Horses that
have won previously on turf.
2. Impressively improving three-year-olds bred for turf.
