STARTER
RACES
For horses that have broken their maiden for a specified claiming price
or less, and have never won two races.
FORM:
A big win in the
maiden claiming race and has been racing and training regularly since.
DISTANCE:
Has won at today's
exact distance, or against winners has finished within one length
at today's or a related distance.
HANDICAPPER'S
PREFER:
1. A good race
under allowance conditions.
2. Horses showing an even effort or better under allowance conditions,
especially high early speed to the second call.
3. Horses that combine a big win in the maiden-claiming race with
a good race for a claiming price higher than the maiden-claiming price.
REGULAR
ELIMINATIONS.
1. Maiden-claiming
graduates that have failed to win at a claiming price below the maiden-claiming
price.
2. Any horse that has lost more than tour races since the maiden-claiming
win, unless the last line was an improved effort with a sharp clocking
at today's level or better.
3. Horses that have been badly beaten under allowance conditions,
unless they showed sharp early speed to the second call in ordinary
time and manner.
4. Horses that have lost more than one of these starter races in ordinary
time and manner.
EXTRA
ADDED ATTRACTIONS:
1. Last running
line is much improved, or clearly the best since the maiden-claiming
win.
2. The last running line or two show acceptable races in allowance
company, and prior to that the horse has beaten claiming conditions
open to winners.
3. The horse beat maiden-claiming conditions in its first try by a
wide margin with fast clockings and since has not lost repeatedly
against claiming winners.
SPECIAL
CONDITIONS:
1. The horse is
younger and lightly-raced and is the only horse in the field to show
an acceptable performance against allowance conditions
