ALLOWANCES
For four-year-olds and up, nonwinners other than maiden
or claiming.
FORM:
Has raced
within thirty days, with regular workouts of three or more since,
or has raced within sixty days and has a string of regular workouts,
including two or more of fast time and at least one within a furlong
of today's distance.
DISTANCE
Has finished
in-the-money or within three lengths of the winner at today's exact
distance.
HANDICAPPERS
PREFER:
1.
A foreign-raced horse of Europe that has placed or finished close
in a graded or listed stakes.
2. A lightly raced improving four-year-old from a top barn that
recently broke maiden ranks impressively and has raced well in few
tries under allowance conditions. 3. Any foreign-raced horse that
has won multiple races of allowance grade or better, particularly
if the import has high earnings resulting from close finishes in
stakes or handicaps.
IN
THE ABSENCE OF THE ABOVE, PREFER:
4. A
consistent winner of higher-priced claiming races.
REGULAR
ELIMINATIONS:
1.
Horses five-years-old and older.
2. Regularly raced four-year-olds whose records show no recent and
significant improvement.
3. Horses entered more than once in claiming races without winning.
4. Won wire-to-wire, quit when pressed on early pace.
EXTRA
ADDED ATTRACTIONS:
1.
Prior entry in a stakes or handicap.
2. Regarding imports, a stable that wins consistently with them.
3. A jockey change to one of the three leaders in the standings.
4. Consistent early speed.
SPECIAL
CONDITIONS:
ON TURF, PREFER:
1.
Foreign-raced horses that race regularly on grass, particularly
those that have performed best at today's exact distance, or at
closely related distances.
2. Four-year-olds inexperienced on grass but having outstanding
turf breeding.
