NONWINNERS ALLOWANCES

For three-year-olds, or for three-year-olds and up, nonwinners two times other than maiden or claiming.

FORM:

Has raced within six weeks, and since shows at least three workouts.

DISTANCE:

Has won or finished close at the exact distance or at related distances.

(Basic requirements and preferences also refer to races for nonwinners of a specified winner's share two times other than maiden or claiming.)

HANDICAPPERS PREFER:

1. A nicely bred, lightly raced, improving three-year-old that in a few tries has won an allowance race smartly or determinedly in fast time and now is moving ahead in class by one logical step.
2. A foreign-raced four-year-old that has won or placed in a graded or listed stakes.
3. The same kind of three-year-old that has won an allowance race impressively and recently has lost no more than four races under nonwinners twice conditions while racing competitively in sharp time.
4. A lightly raced or late-developing four-year-old that once won an allowance race, has never been entered to be claimed, and has never been beaten badly under nonwinners twice conditions.

IN THE ABSENCE OF THE ABOVE, PREFER:

4. A consistent high-priced claiming race winners aged four or five that previously won an allowance race.

REGULAR ELIMINATIONS:

1. Horses that have lost more than six consecutive races under similar conditions.
2. Three-year-olds that have been entered for a claim since winning their first allowance race.
3. Unimpressive recent winners under nonwinners once conditions.
4. Three-year-olds that won an allowance race impressively, but have been soundly trounced in a
stakes.
5. Horses whose claiming races look significantly better than their allowance races.
6. Horses aged six or older.

EXTRA ADDED ATTRACTIONS:

1. Even effort or better in a recent stakes.
2. Bad race under similar conditions last time with an excuse, previous allowance races good.
3. Highest speed ratings in allowance races, probable favorable pace today.
4. Two wins in few tries, allowance win better than maiden win.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
ON TURF. PREFER:

1. Previous allowance race winners on turf. 2. Horses moving from maiden win on dirt to nonwinners
twice conditions on turf.
3. Any horses inexperienced on grass that have top turf breeding and won a previous allowance race impressively.
