MAIDEN CLAIMING RACES (all prices, all ages).

FORM:

If raced within two weeks, no workouts necessary; if raced within three weeks, require at least one workout in satisfactory time; if raced within six weeks, require three or more workouts, with at least two in satisfactory time.

DISTANCE:

In races of a mile or longer, require previous efforts at the same or related distances, with finishes within seven lengths of the winner.

SPEED:

Has a front-running or pace-pressing running style.

HANDICAPPERS PREFER:

1. Horses moving from straight maiden races into maiden
claiming conditions, provided the basic form and speed
requirements have been met in the open races.

REGULAR ELIMINATIONS:

1. Horses that have lost two or more maiden claiming races
previously; no excuses.
2. First-time starters, regardless of claiming price or
stable-jockey connections. 3. Horses moving from straight maiden events but exhibiting no early speed or recent dull form.

EXTRA ADDED ATTRACTIONS:

1. Any of the below, in combination.
2. A favorable jockey change.
3. Improved workouts following the most recent race.
4. Blinkers on.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

1. Horses without early speed that have run evenly or
better in straight maiden races, provided they have
earned one of the top two speed ratings in today's
field, or have earned a pace rating higher than the
other horses in the field.

AT THE ROUTE, SOMETIMES PREFER:

Horses that in straight maiden sprints ran evenly or better while earning a speed rating of seventy-eight or better, notably if no other horses in the field have demonstrated good early speed.
