SMALL FIELDS

Several small fields in the stakes and allowances feature two horses that tower above the rest. The two are closely matched on full-dress handicapping. If one is overbet, the other underbet, prefer the underbet horse - every time. If A is 8-5 and B is 5-2, bet B. If handicappers convert the opportunity four of ten times, profits can run high. On 5-2 shots, profits after ten wagers and four winners would total $8, or 40 percent on investment. Very nice, indeed!

If two horses in a small field are low-priced co-favorites in the betting but one is a fraud, key the genuine article in exactas with other overlays.

If handicappers can be confident the phony favorite will finish up the course, several exactas should be overlays. If an overlay on top of the respectable co-favorite offers excellent value, take it.
