CLAIMING
RACES OLDER
HORSES ALL PRICES
If
veteran railbirds would restrict the assertion that three-year-olds
cannot beat older horses to claiming races, they would be correct more
than 80 percent of the time. Three-year-olds will be outrun by older
claiming horses in races of comparable class. No exceptions.
Anytime
a three-year-old runs powerfully, or respectably, in a claiming race
open to older horses, and resurfaces in a claiming race limited to three-year-olds,
mark the horse up. That kind of three-year-old may be the best bet of
the day, week, or month.
To
less extent, the opportunity persists the next winter, when the three-year-olds
turn four. If new four-year-olds impress against claiming horses 4up,
they might stick out if rebounding in claiming races of comparable class
but limited to new four-year-olds.
